The Admissions Process

Bournewood makes the admissions process clear, consistent, and efficient for referring providers. If you’d like to make a direct referral into our inpatient program, please feel free to use our online referral form.

Direct inpatient referrals require the following criteria:

Initial Psychiatric Evaluation *(must be included)
Recent Progress Notes
Complete Biopsychosocial Assessment
Recent Labs including Toxicology and Pregnancy Test if Available
Full List of Psychiatric and Medical Medications *(must be included)

For inpatient admissions, our hospital programs provide a structured, short-term setting for adults and adolescents managing mental health or substance use conditions and adolescents managing mental health conditions. Intensive treatment units are available for patients with acute needs or co-occurring disorders, supported by 24/7 on-site psychiatric physicians and nurse practitioners who oversee triage, assessment, and admissions.

Referrals come through hospital emergency departments or community behavioral health centers and are coordinated by our direct care administrators. Providers can initiate the process by calling 800-468-4358, and the admissions team can guide them through eligibility, program fit, and next steps.

Our Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) offers care for patients who do not require 24-hour hospitalization. Our PHPs provide mental health and co-occurring treatment programs and includes Kaleidoscope, a specialized mental health primary program for LGBTQIA+ adults and their allies.

Providers can call 800-468-4358 to connect with a PHP intake coordinator. The coordinator will help identify the best program, schedule the first appointment, and provide instructions for a smooth patient experience. Referrals are responded to promptly.
