With the opening of the new Mental Health Partial Hospital Program this month and our continued attention to our priorities, it’s an exciting time for Bournewood Health Systems.
Growth, clinical excellence and compassionate care is a legacy that Bournewood Hospital has nurtured since 1884. We are all proud of our longevity and the high standards in care and treatment the Bournewood staff work toward every day on behalf of individuals who come here to recover from mental health and substance use conditions.
Our approach is three-pronged: we will always strive to provide state-of-the-art treatment; our operations will reflect accountability and efficiency; and we will use our considerable position in the behavioral health field to advocate and impact policy that best serves our patients and our organization.
On June 13, we will open the Mental Health Partial Hospital Program, a group program for adults in mental health crisis who need more intensive treatment than can be provided in an outpatient setting, but who can appropriately receive treatment and services in the community. The Mental Health Partial Hospital Program is particularly appropriate for adults with mood or anxiety disorders, as well as individuals with other major mental health conditions who can appropriately participate in a group setting. While the group programs are varied, central to the new Partial Hospital Program is the evidence-based therapy of Behavioral Activation. As a treatment for depression and other mood disorders, Behavioral Activation is based on the idea that individuals with depression tend to avoid social interaction and isolate themselves, which often worsen symptoms. We will strive to reverse that for those who come to our program to heal and recover.
The Message: Move it Forward
Mental Health Month is now behind us, but we hope that you continue your awareness and advocacy efforts throughout the year. Bournewood had a busy May, supporting great events for the cause, all of them spreading the critical message of awareness.
On May 1, Bournewood sponsored a team at the IAM Strong Foundation 5k race. We had a solid showing at the NAMI Walk on May 14 where thousands of people demonstrated the power of the mental health community is. I invite you to read some of the NAMI Walk stories here--guaranteed, they will move you.
Bournewood was a sponsor for the May 27 Parent/Professional Advocacy League annual conference for families in Marlborough. It was a great gathering and we were delighted to be part of it.
And we are proud to partner with the Boston Bulldogs Running Club as a sponsor for their inaugural Run for Recovery 5k Race and vigil at Franklin Park on May 22. It was an amazing tribute to those who have lost their lives to addiction and the family and friends who love them. We look forward to many more Run for Recovery events as we move forward in support of wellness and recovery.
Thank you all for moving our collective message forward. Keep it going.
This Japanese proverb is good motivation: Fall down seven times, get up eight.
