Bournewood Team In Zero Suicide Academy

We are very pleased to share that Bournewood Health Systems was selected to participate in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health-sponsored Zero Suicide Academy™ this month.

I extend congratulations to the Zero Suicide Academy™ Team: Mona Bastide, LICSW, MSW, Chief Operating Officer; Sheila Peck, LICSW, MSW, Manager of Ambulatory Services; Alex Tradd, RN, BA – Manager of Staff Education; and Sarah Kelly, RN, ADN, Nurse Manager of Stedman ITU.

As an organization and as a compassionate team of doctors, nurses and clinicians, we are deeply committed to preventing suicide in our facilities. We pride ourselves in delivering compassionate and dignified care and treatment that takes seriously the recovery we know our clients can achieve. Suicide prevention is a major component of our clinical programs and the physical plant and milieu.

The Zero Suicide™ approach is wholly aligned with our approach to trauma-informed and person-centered treatment. Since 2015 when we instituted the Six Core Strategies©, which is rooted in the principles of trauma informed care, all disciplines across the hospital are trained to understand that many of the individuals served by Bournewood have had experiences of trauma during their lifetime—trauma which often leaves lasting emotional hardship. As a Joint Commission accredited facility, and licensed by the Massachusetts Departments of Mental Health and Public Health, we can be proud of our attention to a safe environment for patients and staff.

Expanding our horizons in this way will only benefit an already dedicated and expert staff and most importantly further promote the healing and hope we give to the individuals who come to Bournewood to begin their recovery.

Congratulations again to Bournewood’s Zero Suicide™ Academy team and our deepest appreciation goes to every dedicated staff member of the Bournewood organization.
