When patients come to us, we begin with a careful assessment of their condition to determine their place in our broad continuum, which includes inpatient, residential, partial hospital, observation, intensive outpatient, and outpatient services.  We make these assessments quickly and accurately, with a patient´s placement in the continuum reflecting his or her current condition.  This allows us to begin treatment more rapidly and in the least restrictive setting.  A patient may enter one treatment component within the Bournewood Health Systems´ continuum and transfer to another when appropriate.  Our rapid assessment, proven ability to treat patients, and coordinated aftercare help restore order and stability to patients´ lives.

We believe that family interaction needs to be understood to facilitate patient recovery. Our clinicians can guide family members in giving more helpful support for the patient.  At the same time, families need support, too; and we provide it through family meetings and formal groups as well as through informal discussions.

We welcome the involvement and insight of referring professionals at every phase of treatment and invite them to collaborate with our multidisciplinary team.  When a patient enters Bournewood Health Systems´ continuum with an established therapeutic relationship, we return the patient to that relationship as soon as possible.  For decades, a number of general and psychiatric hospitals throughout New England have collaborated with us for patient care or have referred acutely ill patients to us for treatment.  We are proud of this tradition of cooperative interaction that keeps all parties informed and involved in a patient´s progress.

Every patient is an individual.  Every patient´s response to therapy is individual.  That is why we tailor the treatment plan to each patient.  Our programs are not rigidly defined, but are multifaceted and flexible.  We operate the hospital with psychiatric staff and consultants in various medical specialties allowing us to match the patient´s problems with the correct expertise.  The team includes psychiatrists, social workers, discharge planners, nurses, rehabilitation therapists, and other specialists when appropriate and necessary.
