Adult Psychiatric Program

Our comprehensive psychiatric program has the ability to deal with the full spectrum of mental illness. The most highly disorganized individuals are treated in secure units while we work with others in a less restrictive environment. Our therapeutic milieu offers psychopharmacological interventions, individual and group support, and encourages the active involvement of the individual in his or her care.

Chemical Dependency and Dual Diagnosis Services

The Chemical Dependency/Dual Diagnosis program offers a comprehensive, specialized program for those who have psychological problems as well as substance abuse or addictions. We offer a range of treatment responses including medically monitored detoxification and rehabilitation.Our team of health care professionals works with the individual in developing a continuum of care that is realistic and workable. An extensive referral network helpsto ensure stabilization and continued sobriety.Bournewood also offers acute residential treatment for dual diagnosis clients, partial hospital programs, intensive outpatient, and traditional outpatient services.

Child/Adolescent Treatment Program Services

The Child/Adolescent Treatment programtreats young people, ages 10 to 18, with emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric disorders. The program and the team of health care professionals focus on a strength-based treatment philosophy in developing an individualized program for each patient based upon a thorough clinical assessment. Certified teachers who identifyand address any learning disabilities provide educational services. The adolescent´s progress is communicated back to the school upon discharge. Our program strongly encourages the involvement of family members and school staff. Bournewood also offers a partial hospital program on weekdays as a step-down from inpatient care, or as an alternative to hospitalization when appropriate.

24-Hour Triage and Assessment

Evaluations may be done at Bournewood Hospital or at a number of clinical settings in Eastern Massachusetts. Assessments, triage, crisis intervention, and hospital admission are available around the clock, every day of the year. In addition, we have a psychiatric physician on site 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

Partial Hospital Programs

Our day programs provide structure as well as individual and group therapy, psychopharmacology,and support services. Patients may enter these partial hospitalization programs directly following assessment or after inpatient care. We have distinct Adult and Child/Adolescent day programs.

Intensive Outpatient Services

Bournewood Health Systems offers a variety of treatment programs to adults and adolescents on an outpatient basis. Individual counseling, group therapy, and family therapy are available for emotional and mental health issues as well as substance abuse or chemical dependency. Our staff of licensed clinicians, which includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and mental health counselors provides therapy. Psychological testing services are also available. Concerns about depression, alcohol or drug use, anxiety, or eating disorders can often be addressed in outpatient treatment. Individuals who need a more intensive or more structured program can still receive treatment in an outpatient setting. Intensive outpatient programs provide a combination of services, which may include counseling, groups, and/or psychiatry based on the individual´s need.

Acute Residential Treatment Program

The Bournewood Health Systems´ ART is an eight-bed Dual Diagnosis Acute Residential Treatment program. The program is available to men and women ages18 and older. The program provides structured dual diagnosis treatment in a less restrictive environment than inpatient care, and more comprehensive than partial hospitalization and outpatient levels of care. The Dual Diagnosis ART program offers a therapeutic milieu, and multi-modal therapies. The staff is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team including psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and chemical dependency counselors. The programming is comprised of didactic, discussion groups, and 12-Step NA/AA meetings. The program goals are to provide education around dual diagnosis issues, to enhance each client´s coping skills, and to provide a foundation for relapse prevention and stabilization of mental illness.All clients are expected to attend the full program. Family and/or significant others are encouraged to participate in the client´s treatment.

Residential Placement

Residential placement often creates a bridge from the hospital to independent living. It may allow a patient to avoid hospitalization altogether. This alternative provides a safe and therapeutic haven for patients who are not prepared to be on their own. We are affiliated with several residential facilities throughout Eastern Massachusetts.
